Tenacious D may be making a comeback after all.
Jack Black told Variety at the "Borderlands" premiere Tuesday that the comedy rock band "will be back" following the cancelation of their Spicy Meatball Tour due to his bandmate Kyle Gass' controversial comment about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
"We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime. And we'll be back," Black said, adding, "I love Tenacious D. It's probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It's a work of art, it's my baby."
When asked if the actor and Gass have spoken since their tour cancelation, he told the outlet, "Yeah, we're friends. That hasn't changed. These things take time sometimes… And we'll be back when it feels right."
USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Black for comment.

Tenacious D's potential comeback comes after the "School of Rock" actor told USA TODAY in a statement on July 16 that he was "blindsided" by Gass saying "don't miss Trump next time" on stage during their show on July 14.
Black also announced he was ending the Tenacious D tour and pausing plans to continue working with Gass.
"I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," the actor and rocker said. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

Kyle Gass apologizes for his 'dangerous' joke about Trump assassination attempt: 'Terrible mistake'
During a Tenacious D show on July 14 in Sydney, Black presented a cake to Gass for his birthday and told him to make a wish. "Don't miss Trump next time," Gass said, referencing the assassination attempt on Trump.
In his own statement shared on Instagram following the show, Gass apologized for the remark and made clear that it was not planned.
"The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake," he said. "I don't condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I'm incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement."

He added, "I profoundly apologize to those I've let down and truly regret any pain I've caused."
Meanwhile, Gass was dropped by his talent agency Greene Talent due to the Trump comment, agent Michael Greene confirmed to USA TODAY.
Black has been performing with Gass in Tenacious D, a comedy rock band, since 1994. They co-starred in a comedy film about the band, "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny," in 2006.
